[ WINTEC EVOLUTION ] 1991-93: CORDURA & 2000 FLASHES

Ken as a designer held the belief that it was necessary to use a stretch material to make a Wintec saddle in order to keep the patterns consistent. This was until he saw a saddle made overseas out of a non-stretch denim.

To further increase the durability of Wintec saddles Ron and Ken went in search of a heavy duty non-stretch material and produced a version of Cordura which was made by Bradmill to specific weaves which suit application in a saddle.

Heavy Duty Cordura is still used today in the Sport and 100 saddles and is very comfortable to ride in and longer lasting. Cordura is also used in a lot of motorbike protective clothing and luggage due to its strength.

1991 also saw the release of the Wintec 2000 available in equisuede or a new durahide man made leather with flashes of colour on the flap. The 2000 adopted a cheaper manufacturing method than the Pro in order to give the market a suede saddle that was more affordable. Flashes of colour were incorporated on the flap to offer an alternative to plain black and revive the interest in coloured saddles. The colours however did not take off nor did the durahide version of the saddle.
